Jodie Aguirre fired a two-hitter and the Alvin Lady Yellowjackets clinched their third straight 24-6A Softball crown with a 3-0 triumph over Clear Springs Friday night.

While two games still remain in the regular season, Alvin (25-5 overall, 10-0 in district) owns the tie-breaker over second-place Clear Falls with a sweep in the district series. The UIL bi-district playoffs get under way the weekend of April 25-27. The Lady Jackets close the regular season by playing Clear Brook in Friendswood on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and hosting Dickinson on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Aguirre also struck out eight in the contest and got the only run she would need in the bottom of the first inning. Mindy Matthews and Shae Montemayor both reached on Springs’ errors, while Grace Coffelt drove in Matthews from third base with a sacrifice fly to right field.

Mary Pourcio delivered an RBI single to make it 2-0 in the fourth and Coffelt singled home Montemayor in the fifth with Alvin’s third tally.

In other area softball action, the Manvel Lady Mavericks blasted Lamar Consolidated 21-6 Friday night in Rosenberg. Desiree De La Garza and Addison Greak both drove in three runs to lead the Lady Mavs (17-11 overall, 9-4 in 24-5A).

Manvel put the game away with an eight-run sixth inning. The playoff-bound Lady Mavs hosted Foster late Monday and will conclude the regular season by playing at Fort Bend Marshall on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. a... Click here to read full article
