Area student athletes ink collegiate letters for National Signing Day

A total of 30 student athletes from AISD inked their collegiate letters of intent at their respective high school campuses.

Shadow Creek Sharks’ offensive lineman Cam’Ron Johnson waited until Tuesday to announce his commitment to the University of Houston, while Manvel Maverick running back Garrison Johnson pulled out a Syracuse University hat during his signing ceremony on Wednesday to indicate that he will be rejoining former Manvel head coach Kirk Martin (now the Orangemen quarterbacks’ coach) next fall.

The signing list for the area went as follows: Alvin - Wyatt Fields, Coastal Bend College, baseball; Manvel (football) - Noah Haygood, Southern Nazarene; Jhase Edwards, University of Incarnate Word; Roland Kimble, Missouri Southern State; Justin Valenzuela, Southern Nazarene; Devon Roush, East Central University; Jermaine Brown, Stephen F. Austin University; Kori Roberson, Oklahoma; Layden Robinson, Texas A&M; Eric Hebert, A&M Commerce; Ladarius Owens, Texas Southern University; Kameryn Alexander, Sam Houston State University; Trevion Robertson, Southern Nazarene; Travorris Hardison, East Central University; Jude Mayon, Sterling College (Kansas); (Baseball) - Myles Simmons, University of St. Thomas; Eric Benitez, Rice University; (Softball) - Brianna Garcia, Alvin Community College.

Rounding out the field from Shadow Creek were football signees Axel Cruz (A&M Commerce), Darrion Brown (Sam Houston State University), Jamarian George (Tarleton Stare), Kealon Jackson (University of North Texas), Jevin Murray (University of North Texas), Ronald Nunnery (University of Houston) and Kaymen St. Junious (U.S. Air Force Academy).
