Jackets land five players on 24-6A Baseball team

The Alvin Yellowjackets landed six players on the All-District 24-6A Baseball team.

Senior outfielder Jerran Schiller and sophomore third baseman Austin Hinson were named to the first team, while senior outfielder Charles Gordon joined sophomore pitcher Carson Keithley and senior second baseman Spencer Ouellette on the second team. Junior catcher Travis Phelps gained honorable mention status.

Schiller hit .325 with 15 RBI’s, 15 stolen bases, 11 runs scored, four doubles and two triples, while Hinson batted .429 with 19 runs scored and only two errors from his third base station. Gordon and Ouellette also paced the Jackets in runs scored (23) and runs batted in (27), respectively, and Keithley posted a 2.08 earned run average on the hill.

Alvin went 10-18 overall and posted victories over eventual playoff teams Clear Falls and Dickinson during district play, while sweeping Clear Brook.

Other first team selections included pitchers Garrett Poston (Clear Creek), Hunter Sims (Dickinson), Jonathan Pascale (Clear Falls), Bradley Wilcott (Friendswood) and Blake Schultz (Clear Springs); catcher Gavin Machado (Clear Brook); first baseman Arjun Parikh (Clear Lake); second baseman Calvin Whittaker (Friendswood) and shortstop Michael Cervantes (Clear Springs); outfielders Matthew Etzel (Clear Creek), Graham Whittington (Clear Falls) and Johnnie Nemecek (Friendswood); designated hitter Willis Coleman (Clear Falls); and utility player Nathan Ingram (Dickinson).

Clear Falls pitcher Braydon Fisher earned most valuable player honors, while the newcomer award went to Izaac Pacheco, of Friendswood, and Clear Falls’ Eddie Younghblood was tabbed as the league’s top coach.
